Legendary Scottish funnyman Fred MacAulay has been unveiled as the latest comedian to entertain the crowds at the Granite City’s first comedy festival.

Well-known for stints on Mock The Week, QI, Have I Got News For You and The News Quiz, as well as fun loving three-piece rock cover band Fubar, he will join a host of stand-up talent at the inaugural event spearheaded by Aberdeen Inspired.

The Aberdeen Comedy Festival is being held from October 14 to November 5 and will feature more than 250 comedians performing at over 20 venues throughout the city centre.

Other comedians already announced for the comedy extravaganza include Tom Stade, Simon Evans, Bobby Mair, Hardeep Singh Kohli, Ava Vidal and Patrick Monahan.

Adrian Watson, chief executive of Aberdeen Inspired, said: “We are absolutely delighted to announce that Fred MacAulay will be joining the fantastic group of talented comedians already confirmed for the Aberdeen Comedy Festival.

“The festival will present a unique opportunity for the public to enjoy great comedians in a variety of venues throughout the city centre. This is the first time a comedy event of this scale has happened in Aberdeen and it is fantastic that Fred is playing a part in that.

“There is a generation of incredible stand-ups acts out there at the moment and we are looking forward to announcing further comedians in due course. We hope the public will embrace this event, have a lot of laughs, and enjoy the brilliant range of comedy that will be performed in the city.”

Fred MacAuley’s quips and on screen reputation is the result of years of experience on the live circuit, including a stint as the first ever-Scottish compere at the Comedy Store in London. He is a regular at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and at comedy festivals worldwide, and is also known for his appearances on many Radio 4 comedy panel shows including I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue, Just A Minute, The Unbelievable Truth and The News Quiz.
